Under the direction of DL Leadership, provides guidance on technical issues to staff, leads quality initiatives, assists with technical & equipment troubleshooting, manages the development and implementation of new tests and assists with analysis and interpretation of complex test results in support of DL Hematology (Hemostasis Reference Lab, Molecular Oncology Genetics Lab, and Platelet & Neutrophil Immunology Lab) or DL Histocompatibility labs. This position has developed and demonstrated a level of quality and technical competence that allows for completing work in a highly independent and efficient manner and handling of complex technical issues. Provides support to clinical and research customers, including a high level of customer service and consultation on complex cases and problems. Trains and assesses competence of staff members and educational guests. In conjunction with the entire Lab Team, performs interpretation of complex patient test results, including consultations with clients, as required.

Under the direction of the Manager of Transfusion Service, provides on-site leadership and mentorship, guidance on operational issues, daily work direction, work review, staff development, training, and staff scheduling. Performs immunohematology testing on patient samples and provides the correct blood product for transfusion based on these results. Performs component preparation as ordered by the provider to ensure the correct product is issued for transfusion. Provides the most appropriate blood in a timely and accurate manner and provides phone consultation to customers. This position has developed and demonstrated a level of competence and leadership skills that allows for completing and coordinating work in a highly independent and efficient manner and handling complex issues.

Under the direction of the MSI Manager, Operational Excellence, assists in providing quality systems, compliance, and continuous improvement support for day to day operations within Cellular Therapy Program which includes Cellular Therapy Laboratory, Cord Blood Bank, and Therapeutic Services. The Versiti Blood Research Institute (VBRI) is an academic center for innovative hematology research in WI. VBRI research spans the spectrum from basic, mechanistic inquiry to clinical- translational and population-based research and currently houses 26 faculty with five focus areas- Hematopoiesis, Glycobiology, Thrombosis and Hemostasis, Transfusion Medicine, and Immunology. To increase the critical mass of hematology investigators assembled under the same roof, VBRI will be adding 18 new PIs over a 7-year period. Designs for a new research building are nearing completion, with groundbreaking slated for the summer of 2024, and completion anticipated in the middle of 2026. This state-of-the-art building will add 80,000 ft2 new space, almost doubling our research capacity.We are seeking to recruit a program leader to expand our Immunology Program from five to up to ten faculty over the next five years. The ideal candidate will have an immunology-focused research program with a track record of outstanding scientific achievement, continuous extramural support, and success at mentorship consistent with a Full Professor.
