Position Summary

Under the direction of the Versiti Supervisor Transportation, responsible for the daily operations of the Transportation department by organizing, prioritizing, and dispatching deliveries across departments, to enhance services in an efficient and effective manner. Leads a cohesive team to complete deliveries in a safe and timely fashion while meeting customer expectations and complying with applicable regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Versiti safety policies as outlined in the department manual and employee handbook

  • Ensures the safety, purity, potency and efficacy of products by following Versiti procedures in handling of all blood and blood products

  • Assists in resolving and investigating deviations and helps prepare corrective actions

  • Trains team on defensive driving techniques, vehicle driving and safety training course (online or in person), and transportation processes

  • Executes Versiti customer service strategies designed to meet and/or exceed customer requirements

  • Reviews policies and procedures to continuously improve transportation services

  • Ability to lead or participate in functional or cross-functional project work

  • Ensures work systems and processes are effective, efficient and maximize productivity

  • Ensures accurate reporting of on time deliveries and quality related metrics

  • Organizes non-scheduled STAT deliveries and special requests and monitors for required timeliness and accuracy

  • Leads and assists team to follow Versiti policies and procedures for internal blood product hospital deliveries and returns, donor center pick-ups, equipment, interoffice mail, supply deliveries, distribution site transfers, Diagnostic Lab sample pick-ups, Pharmacy deliveries, Donor Testing Lab tube deliveries

  • Facilitates and prioritizes work flow and covers gaps in transportation

  • Handles day to day transportation questions put forth by Versiti staff across all departments

  • Assists in staff scheduling and determining shift hours for open positions

  • Works directly with Fleet Coordinator on any fleet maintenance needs and general vehicle upkeep

  • Works weekend, holiday rotations and on-call, as needed

  • Maintains an expert knowledge of all routes and customers and serves as a backup as needed

Qualifications

Education
  • Associate's Degree in related field such as biological science, supply chain management, business or equivalent experience
    preferred
Experience
  • 2-4 years’ experience as a route driver preferred

  • 2-4 years’ experience in dispatching preferred

  • 2-4 years’ experience in leading cohesive teams preferred

  • Continuous improvement experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Must pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and a desire to learn and apply American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) regulations required

  • Outstanding customer service skills required

  • Ability to proactively identify and improve on customer complaints and issues required

  • Result and action oriented with a sense of urgency and ability to excel in stressful situations required

  • Process oriented mindset focused on continuous improvement required

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills required

  • Ability and motivation to cross train in Hospital Services required

  • Proactively solves problems and utilizes good decision making to affect change required

  • Ability to lead a cohesive team approach by promoting the importance of working within and across departments without direct reporting oversite required

  • Ability to read, interpret, and train others to Standing Operating Procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and other manuals required

  • Accountable for delivery of own work, and others, based on key performance indicators required

  • Ability to work cooperatively as well as independently, without direct supervision required

  • Ability to communicate with higher level management and escalate when appropriate required
