Position Summary

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Community Education, the Community Health Liaison serves as a key connector between Versiti and the communities it serves, helping advance organizational goals related to health equity, blood and organ donation, and access to care. The position collaborates across internal divisions—including Organ and Tissue Donation, Blood Services, the Blood Research Institute, and Diagnostic Labs—to identify opportunities that address healthcare disparities, particularly among individuals living with sickle cell disease and other hematologic disorders. The Liaison independently develops and sustains partnerships that strengthen community awareness, education, and engagement. Acting as both an advocate and navigator, this role builds meaningful connections with community leaders, healthcare providers, and local organizations to support individuals and families in accessing critical services. The position exercises discretion and judgment in designing outreach approaches, tracking results, and refining strategies to ensure alignment with community needs and Versiti's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a trusted resource within targeted underserved communities, providing guidance and direct assistance to individuals and families navigating healthcare and support services. Establishes and maintains accurate, confidential electronic client records, including service plans, outcomes, and release of information. Analyzes individual and community needs to identify barriers to care and recommends tailored solutions or resource linkages to improve access and continuity of support.
  • Monitors progress of community engagement strategies using data, partner feedback, and outcome measures. Evaluates effectiveness of current approaches and identifies gaps or changing needs within communities. Makes informed adjustments to outreach plans—such as redirecting resources, modifying educational content, or altering partnership focus—to strengthen program reach and impact. Summarizes findings and recommendations for leadership review to guide future strategy development.
  • Proactively identifies, builds, and maintains relationships with key community stakeholders, including healthcare organizations, advocacy groups, faith-based institutions, educational entities, and civic leaders. Represents Versiti at meetings, community events, and public forums to promote understanding of its mission. Evaluates partnership opportunities for alignment with strategic objectives and recommends initiatives or events that advance health education, donation awareness, and community trust.
  • Designs, plans, and executes targeted community health programs—particularly those supporting the sickle cell community. Defines goals, identifies audiences, and manages program logistics and evaluation. Ensures initiatives are culturally relevant and aligned with community needs. Tracks participation, measures impact, and integrates findings to improve future programming.
  • Collaborates with internal marketing and communications teams to develop and tailor outreach materials, presentations, and campaigns for specific audiences. Provides community-based insights to guide message framing, imagery, and tone. Ensures consistent representation of community perspectives and Versiti’s brand across all outreach channels.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification
  • Understands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Degrees in: Nursing, Public Health, Social Work. required
  • Associate's Degree Equivalent combination of education and related experience (5-7 years) may be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree in lieu of required degree

Experience

  • 1-3 years Three years’ experience in community education, with measurable outcomes required
  • 1-3 years Experience with patients with sickle cell or other hematologic disorders required
  • 1-3 years Experience with Program development with measurable outcomes required
  • Demonstrated success in leading community programs in underserved communities. required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Professional judgment, competence and confidence to deal effectively with various media, political and potentially controversial situations required
  • A strong customer service focus with high level relationship-building and interpersonal skills required to reach all communities. required
  • Strong time management, prioritization and decision-making skills. The ability to work in cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment. required
  • Excellent verbal, written, and persuasive communication skills including public speaking required. Ability to lead without authority. required
  • Highly goal-oriented self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision . required
