Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Donor Services, the Apheresis Coordinator, Donor Services, is responsible for primary support of the apheresis collection program within Donor Services and monitoring and achieving goals related to strategy and performance metrics. The Aphresis Coordinator functions in an operational leadership role coordinating all activities involved with automated blood collections, including but not limited to conversions and collecting to need (type, date and product specific).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting, monitoring, and achieving goals related to performance metrics, and identifies opportunities to automate and/or systemize regular practices.
  • Prepares and achieves set automated recruitment and collection goals based on hospital demand by day of week.
  • Supports regulatory compliance by reading, interpreting and accurately applying documents such as SOPS, technical publications, safety rules, maintenance instructions, procedural and technical manuals. Recognizes non-compliance and takes appropriate action to remedy including partnering with Human Resources for corrective action
  • Submits reports and plans for corrective action based on goals and metrics.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and provide departmental support on automated collection procedures and collection instruments as needed.
  • Responsible for supporting apheresis training and education in conjunction with trainers / educators.
  • Attends team and staff meetings and disseminates information as appropriate.
  • Participates in department and affiliate -wide strategic planning with management to enhance the donor experience and to improve Blood Services operations.
  • Participates in writing, revising and validating SOPs and conducts in-service trainings as requested.
  • Serves on/leads various teams/committees as needed.
  • Monitors and collaborates to provide continuing education opportunities for apheresis associates, as required.
  • Coordinates and completes other assigned projects, upon request and complies with all Versiti safety policies and procedures.
  • As an operational backup, maintains competency in the basic duties of apheresis product collection.
  • Follows universal precautions and protective measures required by Versiti and outside regulatory agencies. Incumbent may be exposed to blood or body fluids or be in areas which contain these items. Frequent hand washing and gloves are required.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification
  • Understands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Complies with all standard operating policies and procedures

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma required
  • equivalent required
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Experience

  • 2-3 years of apheresis experience required
  • Must be able to use the necessary software and hardware to perform the duties of the position and access company communications. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, Outlook preferred
  • Ability to maintain databases, create and analyze documents and spreadsheets preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication (verbal and written) skills required. required
  • Ability to read, interpret and accurately apply documents such as SOPS, technical publications, safety rules, maintenance instructions, procedural and technical manuals required and be able to write routine reports and correspondence. required

  • Available to staff and management by phone or other method as necessary and be on-call as required by the position. required

  • Valid driver’s license for assigned state required
