Position Summary

Associate Medical Director/Medical Director, Versiti Medical Sciences Institute, and the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders- Adult and/or Med/Peds Hematologist

 

The Medical Sciences Institute at Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI seeks an interested, enthusiastic, and collegial junior or mid-career clinical faculty member to join our multidisciplinary team at Versiti to provide patient care and support services for patients with bleeding and clotting disorders in a unique role that also provides clinical consultation within our diagnostic laboratories.  

As a federally funded hemophilia treatment center (HTC), Versiti’s Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders (CCBD) provides diagnosis and ongoing medical and supportive care for patients who are born with, or acquire, a bleeding or clotting disorder across the lifespan. As the HTC serving southeastern Wisconsin, we aim to provide state-of-the-art, personalized medical care to all our patients with bleeding and clotting disorders.

Responsibilities

Duties include care of adult and possibly pediatric patients with hemophilia, severe von Willebrand disease, and rare coagulation disorders amongst other disorders of hemostasis/thrombosis  The position also includes the possibilities of administrative leadership and clinical research. This position includes the opportunity to teach and mentor trainees from the Medical College of Wisconsin at our campus partners, Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Wisconsin, the sites of inpatient clinical care. Clinical service responsibilities will include medical care of non-malignant hematologic disorders, focusing on bleeding disorders, in the outpatient and inpatient settings at the CCBD.   

Qualifications

 

The successful applicant will also serve as a clinical consultant for our world-renowned diagnostic laboratories. Built upon the pioneering discoveries of Richard Aster, M.D. and other investigators, the diagnostic laboratories offer highly specialized testing for patients with inherited and immune-mediated hematologic disorders. Clinical consultants work with our interdisciplinary team of scientists, genetic counselors, and pathologists to provide the highest quality diagnostic care by serving as subject matter experts, helping to identify unmet clinical needs, aiding in the development of new diagnostic assays, advising on strategic planning, and providing consultation to external providers seeking to better understand the implications of test results for their patient. The specific area of involvement within diagnostic hematology can be tailored to the interests of the successful applicant. 

 

Successful applicants will also have the opportunity to participate in direct patient care and translational research through the Medical Sciences Institute, the Blood Research Institute, and our partners at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Froedtert Hospital, and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

 

Applicants must be board-certified/eligible in hematology. The successful applicant will engage in Departmental Career Development programs with a strong focus on mentorship. 

Education

  • M.D. or D.O required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Board certified/eligible in Hematology
  • Board certified (current board certification preferred) in Internal Medicine 
  • Current or planned Wisconsin  medical license
